About MeI am Marissa Young, 4th Grade elementary teacher at Pontiac Elementary located in Elgin, South Carolina. I have been teaching for 10 years in the elementary general education classroom. I have a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Divergent Learning. I am currently teaching in a 1-1 Math and Science classroom.
I started blending my math instruction in 2014 in order to create individualized plans to meet the needs of my students. I see so much valuable potential in this personalized learning platform to meet the demands of a student population that is highly diverse. In my classroom, technology is a powerful tool to help me address the academic needs of my students. The digital devices my students use allow me to tailor lessons to meet each student’s needs. I continue to build my blended learning units by collaborating with other educators. I presented on blended learning in math instruction at the Midlands Summit Conference 2015 in Columbia, South Carolina. In October 2015, I presented two sessions on transforming math instruction through blended learning for Richland School District Two professional development. Along with full time teaching, I am a full time mom and wife to my wonderful family. I have two young boys, Rease (5) and Jase (3). We enjoy spending family time outdoors riding four-wheelers, boating, water sports, and just being together. |
